The scoop on Schell Family Farms

I’m sure you’ve seen the sign for Schell Family Farms when driving into the high school and wondered what it was. I’m also sure that you, and every other teenager in our town, have at one point said: “there’s nothing to do in Pinckney”. Schell Family Farms may be just the solution to this.

Schell Family Farms has been in operation since 2014 and opened up to the public in August of this year. They offer beautiful sunflower fields close to home that are perfect to visit with your friends, family, or favorite photographer. They’re open Friday through Sunday from 9 am to 4 pm. Adult admission is only $4 and includes a free sunflower to take home, and kids get in free.

Make sure you stop in quick to get your chance to see the sunflowers, the Autumn Beauties have about 2-3 more weeks in bloom to be enjoyed.

They also are preparing for the opening of Ghostly Grove, their haunted forest, on September 27. It will be open every Friday and Saturday as well as some Sundays throughout the season. They have a team of professionals with 40 years of experience running the show, and over 30 actors hired already.

I had the opportunity to speak with owner Chris Schell and he was very excited about being so close to the high school and being a part of the community. “We want you to know that we’re here to support you guys,” said Schell. “We’re a community-based business. We want everyone involved and the high school is our best neighbor”.

Make sure to return that support by stopping in to give Schell Family Farm a visit and see the sunflowers, wander through Ghostly Grove, or see what else they have to offer you and the community.
