With the holidays fast approaching, holiday parties are inevitable. If you are required to bring a dish to pass, try this easy recipe that is also super cheap. Most of the ingredients can be found in the pantry already.

Reindeer chow, also known as puppy chow or muddy buddies, is a fun twist to the original recipe that makes it more appropriate for the holidays.

  • 6 cups of rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips (the jumbo ones will be easier to melt)
  • 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 bag of Christmas M&M’s
  • Pretzels to taste
  • Peanut butter cups to taste
  • Marshmellows to taste

If you don’t have the ingredients in the pantry, they retail for approximately $30 at Kroger.

  1. In a microwave safe bowl, melt peanut butter and chocolate chips together in 30 second increments. Stir until smooth.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, pour peanut butter/chocolate mixture over cereal and stir until cereal is evenly covered with the mixture.
  3. Pour cereal into a large plastic bag. Add powdered sugar and shake bag to mix. (To make it easier to mix it more even, shake it in smaller increments).
  4. At this point you can add whatever. We added peanut butter cups, M&M’s, Marshmellows and pretzels. Then shake the bag.
  5. Chill in fridge to harden the chocolate.
  6. ENJOY!!
